Her Experiences

I believe that anyone who's met Lorelei would find it difficult not to like her. She actively greets people with those bright eyes and that confident smile, and when she walks by, it's like a warming wind follows in her wake, making it impossible not to notice her. She's well-versed in the dos and don'ts of social etiquette, and is extremely generous, often inviting everyone to dinner and constantly giving gifts, and then there's the hardest to come by of her qualities—she manages to do all this so perfectly, always unceremoniously and never making people feel as though she might have anything other than genuine intentions. She invited me to her room too, and I can tell you, it was completely different from what you might imagine the daughter of such a wealthy family's room to look like. I didn't see any designer clothes or jewelry—just all kinds of Illumina gear and materials strewn about the place, plus some models and blueprints... and some stuff I'd never even seen before. She says she wants to use Illumina's technology to build better buildings and make everyone's lives easier and more comfortable.

Her Story (I)

I think it's about time I told you a little more about myself, after all, credibility is the cornerstone of cooperation, is it not? Of course, I'd be pleased to share the details of my upbringing and background with you, as mutual understanding can only be conducive to forming a solid partnership built on mutual trust. Don't let your imagination get the best of you, though—there's really nothing special about me. In fact, you could go so far as to say that I've lived a relatively sheltered life. I was raised by a very wealthy family—the Cardogons... I wouldn't be surprised if you'd never heard the name before, as we've always managed to keep a low profile and are not too fond of making public appearances. Our fortune comes from a variety of investment projects in which we chiefly serve as commercial brokers, among other roles. Perhaps you see me merely as a privileged little princess who grew up in the lap of love and luxury. You wouldn't be wrong in thinking so. My life has been free from any form of hardship thus far, and my parents pampered me profusely as a child, especially my mother, providing me with the best of everything.

Her Story (II)

But surely you must also understand that such extreme mollycoddling often goes hand in hand with a life devoid of freedom, suffocated by the smothering embrace of affection. When I was but a child, my mother took it upon herself to map out the optimal path she wished my life to take—a childhood spent under the guardianship and instruction of a private tutor, then I was to don a bejeweled dress upon reaching adulthood and attend my first ball, where I would of course meet my wealthy, noble Prince Charming and be walked down the aisle and married off, only to squeeze out a son and a daughter, just like Mom did... But to this day, it appears as though one important detail still eludes her—these are all her dreams... not mine.
I wanted a life more like that of my younger brother—pursuing higher education in business, starting up my own company before graduation, then journeying around the world with my dad, and taking care of the family business together...
However, I couldn't bring myself to defy my mother's wishes, not after all she'd given me... She provided me with a quality of life and a motherly love that an ordinary girl like me could only have dreamt of, and she did all this despite... despite the fact that I'm not even her real daughter.

Her Story (III)

That's right, I'm not a Cardogon by birth... Rumors to this effect have been known to surface around Umbraton now and then, but Mom and Dad always managed to keep them at bay using their arsenal of little white lies—"Lorelei was afflicted with a severe congenital disease, so of course we had no choice but to send her to the Illumina Federation for treatment the moment she was born... We could only bring her home once she'd been fully cured; by then, she was already six years old! The only reason we didn't tell anyone about Lorelei before was simply for the sake of her own safety." I often find myself acquiescing in their fabrications, even to the extent of introducing myself based on the same pretense, as I understand that this is simply their way of protecting me. They love me as if I were their own daughter, and that's more than enough for me. What right do I have to ask for more?
The place of my birth, my biological parents... every detail of my past is a secret we all understand must be kept guarded, and we do so with great precaution. Maybe they believe I simply can't remember everything that came before, as I was only six years of age when I joined their family.

Her Story (IV)

The truth is, I still remember my past life. I still remember my hometown, Denuo Village, a self-sufficient settlement that thrived far from the chaos of the outside world. I haven't forgotten Coco, my mother, with a face as comforting and beautiful as her gentle soul. I haven't forgotten how a sandstorm leveled the entire village and claimed the lives of almost all the villagers, including my mother... I even remember the boy who saved me, Cena, who left me in the hands of the Cardogon family, leading to me becoming the Lorelei you see before you today.
Hah, even I'm shocked by the fact that I've managed to remember these details, but I can't exactly share all this with my mom and dad. I want to be the perfect daughter they've always hoped for, to pay them back for all the years they've spent taking care of me.
But... I can't ignore this urge deep in my heart to leave my own mark on the world. Must the concepts of entrepreneurship and filial piety be mutually exclusive? Haha, I'm sure you must know my answer by now, after all, how else would you have had the chance to get to know me if I had remained a good little girl, sitting in my room all day?
