Her Experiences

I've heard many rumors of hauntings from Ms. Kayano's hometown, such as an 8-foot tall unidentified woman and a ghostly figure that attacks people in alleys. At the time, I thought some kind of Eclipsite was behind such a myth, and I was on edge for a long time.
But, when I actually met Ms. Kayano, it dawned on me that those rumors were about her. Although she behaved and spoke in a strange fashion that even shocked %s when they first met, she's actually gentle and friendly and enjoys playing with children.
However, Ms. Kayano is a little shy, and getting to know her is a careful and gradual process. Any overt actions to befriend her is likely to scare Ms. Kayano off...

Her Story (I)

I've been able to see those things since I was little. They sometimes looked like mist, other times like bodies of light... They moved around seemingly without purpose and I was never able to get rid of them.
I used to tell my parents I could see strange things, but they didn't believe me at all. Then one day, I was surrounded by a few kids of my age who were taunting me with horrible words. Outnumbered, I didn't dare fight back, and I was so scared that I ended up curling into a ball on the ground, crying and begging my parents to save me.
While I was panicking, those things suddenly went berserk and knocked them down to the ground. I ran home in terror, but it wasn't long before the parents of those children came knocking at our door, demanding my parents compensate them for the state of their children. They called me a monster and said that my parents were no different.
I guess from then on, there was no place for me in that home...

Her Story (II)

After those things went on a rampage, my parents couldn't stand the rumors and sent me off to a Koufu-jou painter skilled in martial arts, presumably in hopes that he could teach me how to suppress those things, but in reality, to be rid of a weird child like me.
But this teacher was despicable through and through. Instead of learning any skills, I was ordered to do all sorts of menial work, only to get a few scraps of food and an old straw mat that served as a bed in the attic in return.
Life was hard in such a harsh environment, and I was left with little choice but to observe my teacher's craft in secret while tending to my chores. I kept any brushes and papers he discarded and would sneak out to paint for next to nothing. But he eventually discovered my secret, furiously beat me half to death, and kicked me out of the house.
Since then, I became homeless on Cloud Island...

Her Story (III)

I've personally experienced a reincarnation ritual.
The rich in Koufu-jou couldn't care less about the life and death of a servant, so even though I was abused by that painter and fell ill, I never received medical treatment. In the end, my condition worsened to the point that one day, on my way to get the painter his paints, I passed out on the street.
When I woke up, I found myself lying in a cemetery. The guards who found me had thought that I was dead and had sent me to the priestess to be purified. As the priestess danced and recited incantations, countless enchantments like threads of light seemed to connect my forehead to those on the other bodies around me. All at once, the corpses were transformed. Enveloped in a dark substance that became like armor and weapons, the bodies turned into monsters—ghosts.
Later, it was the priestess who discovered and rescued me. It was also she who helped me escape the ghosts and who introduced me to Momo and Anzu's restaurant. Without Lady Priestess, I'm afraid... I wouldn't be here today.

Her Story (IV)

Indeed, I don't have many friends.
I'm sure everyone can attest to that. Even on Soroz, there aren't many who are willing to talk to someone as gloomy as me... Not to mention I'm still harboring those things that could go berserk and hurt someone if I'm not careful. I can understand their concerns, Navigator, and you don't have to force yourself to talk to me.
But, I guess you're not going to listen to me either way...
Since I was kicked out of my parents' home and ended up in Koufu-jou, I had come to believe that there was no place for me in the world anymore. But, here, I've gotten back what I had lost. I'm really glad you care about me... I don't know how I'll ever repay you...
